First Picture: Painting with light

I understand the need to practice doing this. You have to figure out where the light should go and envision the photo before hand (just like any photoshoot).

With just my camera bag and a flash light, I created this picture in my bedroom which (being night time) was pitch black. I just shined the light at the ceiling like a flash.

Why?

First of all, with a young family of 3 boys under the ages of 7, I have no time to shoot. I recently saw a post on Fstoppers called Night Photograpy: How to paint with light. That got me thinking, I could photograph at night when everyone's asleep.
